“It’s wonderful to be able to go out dressed up. And where else can you do it in Sydney? Only at the Gin Mill Social.”
That’s what a most sartorially splendid Gin Mill guest told me just last Friday at Slide’s monthly 1920s soiree.
She was resplendent in a soft, sleek chiffon gown complete with cloche hat and retro high heels. Her partner was suavely apparelled in a double-breasted soft pleat with seersucker trousers and two-toned shoes.
Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters, Sydney’s only authentic 1920s singer with band, kick off the evening with songs from the Roaring 20s. We play as guests arrive. Missy the aerialist greets everyone with colourful pixie tinsel aloft her hoop. Then guests and are shown to their tables and served their complimentary welcome Hendricks Gin in a fine bone china tea cup. It’s Prohibition, wink wink.
But why write more about what happens at the Gin Mill Social when pictures speak louder than words?
I’ll let these photos from past, glamorous Gin Mill Social nights speak for themselves. But, of course, there’s nothing better than actually being there. Why not give it a try. Do you have a birthday around 17 July? It’s a great night for a party. So get your friends together and book your tickets now for the Friday July 17 night. Be quick, because tickets go fast.
