Builders Club Wollongong Show – Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters

Sunday January 10 saw Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters make our Wollongong debut in The Basement, Wollongong Builders Club, 61 Church Street, Wollongong.

See us next Sunday 17 Jan for 1920s – 1930s jazz swing and dancing at Cronulla RSL, Gerrale St, Cronulla 12:30 – 3:30pm FREE!

There’s been jazz in The Basement of the Builders Club every Sunday since 2007 and the venue will be going strong through 2016.

In fact, The Basement is a real gem of a venue with stage, bar, subdued lighting and an enthusiastic audience. The club is friendly and the Bistro is tasty without being expensive – I bought a perfect Santorini pizza for dinner.

It was good to meet Shelley Rae and Doreen from the Illawarra Jazz Club in the audience. And Richard and Gloria, who see the band at Cronulla, made the trip to Wollongong.

Gloria took some action snaps of the band which she’ll be using to paint one part of a triptych on board made of weathered fence palings. She’s promised to send a photo once the picture is completed.

With Greg Poppleton in the Bakelite Broadcasters at The Builders were Grahame Conlon guitar, Darcy Wright double bass and Damon Poppleton alto sax.

We’ll be back at The Builders sometime late in 2016.
