2017 Art Deco Ball – Greg Poppleton 1920s Singer and Band

Saturday 4th February, Greg Poppleton played to a full house of dancers dressed 1920s-style at the annual Great Art Deco Ball of the historic Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.

2017 was Greg Poppleton’s sixth year in a row at the premier event of the Blue Mountains 1920s Festival.

Tickets were sold out almost as soon as they went on sale (by telephone call to the hotel reception only) in mid-2016.

Every guest was dressed to the nines in their best 1920s finery. In fact, everyone absolutely dazzled.

The winners of the best dressed were positively outstanding.

The Charleston-off in the middle of the night gave the full dance floor a solid workout.

I took some photos of the band and a couple of shots of the dancing crowd from the bandstand. I hope you enjoy them…

Greg Poppleton is Australia’s only authentic 1920s – 1930s singer. In his band are world-touring musicians Geoff Power on cornet doubling sousaphone (11 US tours) Grahame Conlon guitar doubling banjo (3 US tours) and Jim Elliot bass and alto saxophones plus clarinet (9 US tours).

We saw lots of old friends on the bandstand and made lots of new friends at the Great Art Deco Ball, too.

Many commented on the excellent acoustic sound of the band this year. That was all due to the magician of the sound desk, drummer, singer and Conservatorium of Music graduate, Tony Jex.

Tony is also the man to contact to have Greg Poppleton at your 1920s – 1930s themed event.

We play for weddings, parties and corporates, too.
