All About Swing Dance The Charleston

Siobhan Ford who runs All About Swing very generously has sent me some film of the Greg Poppleton Band  at a 1920s night called ‘Swinging at the Speakeasy’ curated by Pia Andersen.

Siobhan and Karina are dancing to The Charleston.

In the band with Greg Poppleton 1920s singer, you’ll see Paul Furniss clarinet, Paul Baker banjo and Greg Chilcott sousaphone.

All About Swing is a swing dance school. So if you’ve ever wanted to dance the way Siobhan and Katrina are in this clip, get in touch with them…

And when you need authentic 1920s and 1930s jazz swing style at your event, request a quote about Greg Poppleton. 1920s-30s duo to full 1920s orchestra is also available now…

Here’s a gallery of all the fun at Sydney’s premier 1920s night.

Corporate Christmas Party 9 December

What a night! What a brilliant 1920s Great Gatsby themed end-of-year-party for a large media company.

The six-piece Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters had the 550 guests dancing at the huge corporate 1920s party.

With Greg Poppleton, our dance partners SwingKatz gave an exciting, acrobatic swing dance exhibition, dancing to three songs by Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters – Exactly Like You, Five Foot Two Eyes Of Blue and Walkin’ My Baby back Home.

SwingKatz were also commissioned to give staff members six weeks of dance lessons leading up to the event to practice some mass choreographic routines which were a highlight of the night.

The routines were danced to songs from two albums by Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters.

Firstly, the balboa group danced to Greg Poppleton’s ‘The Charleston’ from the ‘Doin’ the Charleston’. CD and digital downloads available at Bandcamp, CDBaby, iTunes, Spotify and more.

Then the lindy hoppers hopped to Greg Poppleton’s ‘It’s Only A Paper Moon’ from the band’s 2006 album, ‘The Phantom Dancer’.

The CD sold out long ago but you can cheaply download the track and whole album from Bandcamp, CDBaby, iTunes, Spotify and more.

Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters are Australia’s only authentic 1920s singer and speakeasy Great Gatsby jazz band of world-touring musicians.

In the six-piece Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters speakeasy band for the Roaring 20s party were: Greg Poppleton (1920s vocals) Paul Furniss (clarinet and alto sax) Al Davey (trumpet and trombone) Grahame Conlon (guitar and banjo) Greg Chilcott (sousaphone) and Ian Bloxsom (drums).

I took some action snaps for you…

It’s the roaring 20s and prohibition has cleared the city. WAIT…! There are whispers… down a dark alley, hidden inside a long closed bank building lives a jumpin’ juke joint.

It’s as hot as one of Gatsby’s Parties, it’s The Gin Mill Social!
