‘Sweet Lorraine’, Greg Poppleton Sextet with SwingKatz dancers…
It’s always a pleasure to be invited back to The Basement in Wollongong to sing the songs of the 1920s – 1930s with my band – Damon Poppleton alto sax, Grahame Conlon guitar and banjo, Dave Clayton double bass.
We turn the intimate cellar into a speakeasy with authentic 1920s – 30s vocals and songs.
We introduced some new old songs to the repertoire for The Basement in the Wollongong Builders Club, including The Continental (as sung by Ginger Rogers), My Canary Has Circle Under His Eyes (as sing by Marion Harris) and Singing In The Bathtub (as sing by Winnie Lightner).
I took some photos for you.
We’re playing next at Penrith RSL, 8 Tindale St Penrith, Saturday 11 November, 2 – 5pm. FREE!

The entire album was recorded between 10:45 am and 3:15pm on Wednesday 24 February with a 45 minute lunch break. So the feel is just like a high energy live show.

The 1930s has been described as ‘The Golden Age of Hollywood’. And those who deal in the ultra-exclusive know that Greg Poppleton is the only authentic 1920s – 1930s singer in Australia with a band of highly talented, world-touring swing musicians for 1930s themed events.
That’s why Greg Poppleton was booked to sing the songs from the movies for an exclusive ‘Old Hollywood Event’.
“Hello Greg,
I thought you and the band did an amazing performance! It totally suited the evenings’ atmosphere and we really noticed that people were enjoying the music. It really surpassed our expectations.
Thank you for your performance!”
