Greg Poppleton 1920s-30s Singer Speakeasy Photos – Builders Club Wollongong Show 22 October

It’s always a pleasure to be invited back to The Basement in Wollongong to sing the songs of the 1920s – 1930s with my band – Damon Poppleton alto sax, Grahame Conlon guitar and banjo, Dave Clayton double bass.

We turn the intimate cellar into a speakeasy with authentic 1920s – 30s vocals and songs.

We introduced some new old songs to the repertoire for The Basement in the Wollongong Builders Club, including The Continental (as sung by Ginger Rogers), My Canary Has Circle Under His Eyes (as sing by Marion Harris) and Singing In The Bathtub (as sing by Winnie Lightner).

I took some photos for you.

We’re playing next at Penrith RSL, 8 Tindale St Penrith, Saturday 11 November, 2 – 5pm. FREE!

March Newsletter – New Album Recorded

“We must say Greg Poppleton’s music always hits the spot – so authentic sounding!”
— Women’s Vintage Radio Hour, Gillespie Network (US)

Hello Bakelite Broadcasters!

Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters recorded 13 hotcha 1920s – 30s songs last Wednesday for a brand new album we’re sure you’ll like. Mixing, mastering, artwork and packaging is still to be done. We’re aiming for a May release date. I’ll keep you informed of progress with each monthly newsletter.

Who’s playing on the new album? Well, you’ll hear Greg Poppleton, authentic 1920s-30s singer, Paul Furniss clarinet, alto sax and soprano sax, Geoff Power trumpet, trombone and sousaphone, Grahame Conlon guitar and banjo, and Lawrie Thompson drums and washboard.

The entire album was recorded between 10:45 am and 3:15pm on Wednesday 24 February with a 45 minute lunch break. So the feel is just like a high energy live show.

Tracks: Back In Your Own Backyard (title track) / Yes, We Have No Bananas / Egyptian Ella / Cakewalking Babies From Home / The Lady Is A Tramp / Too Marvelous For Words / They Didn’t Believe Me / Honeysuckle Rose / When My Dreamboat Comes Home / I’ll See You In My Dreams / I’m Nobody’s Sweetheart Now / Makin’ Whoopee!

Here’s a sneak photo taken at the studio. Greg Poppleton holding the song list. Paul Funiss (reeds) and Grahame Conlon (g) in the background.
