Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters were invited to play at the Waiheke International Jazz Festival 2016 in New Zealand over the Easter weekend.

And now for Part 2…
The band’s first show was in the Artworks Theatre, Oneroa.

With me in the Bakelite Broadcasters for Waiheke were Greg Chilcott (sousaphone and trombone) and Arthur Washington (guitar).

Saturday afternoon, Greg Chilcott joined George Washingmachine and Arthur at their gig in the Aperitivo in Oneroa. I sat in on ‘Avalon’, changing the title in the second chorus to ‘Oneroa’, singing personally to everyone in the bar, then high-stepping to the exit, waving my hat in a grand flourish to head for the beach.
Took a stroll to Ostend. Since NZ has no poisonous snakes and its one poisonous spider lives in sand dunes, I did what I certainly could never do in Australia – popped in off the roadway into a web-free, snake-free, leech-free and very dense, fern forest. Beautiful!
Saturday night was the big show at Morra Hall, with Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters supporting LA-based, New Zealand singer/songwriter of melodic, lyric-based pop, Greg Johnson.
